A Rich History of Education: Redford Union Schools
Redford Union School District No. 1, formerly known as Redford Township District No. 5, boasts a rich history dating back to the early 1840s. The district’s first school was a humble log structure that served the educational needs of the community until the 1870s, when it was replaced by a more substantial wooden-frame building.
The current school building, constructed between 1916 and 1921, reflects the evolution of educational architecture during that period. This structure was built with a focus on both hygienic standards and the practical needs of school administration. The school was officially renamed Redford Union School District No. 1 in 1923 and became affectionately known as Beech Road School.
Designed according to stock plans provided by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, this structure was built with a focus on both hygienic standards and the practical needs of school administration. The school was officially renamed Redford Union School District No. 1 in 1923 and became affectionately known as Beech Road School.
Today, the building stands as a rare and well-preserved example of early 20th-century school design, featuring a classic belfry and understated decorative brickwork that embody the architectural vision of the era. This historic building continues to symbolize the district’s long-standing commitment to education and the community.
Project Overview – Signarama Troy and Redford Union School District
Signarama Troy partnered with Redford Union School District, serving over 12,000 students, to create a one-of-a-kind suspended illuminated logo sign that perfectly captures the school’s spirit and branding. Jasen Witt, the Superintendent of Redford Union School District, was inspired by a similar design he had seen at another school. Jasen sought to bring this innovative concept to life for his district. The goal was to replicate the idea while customizing it to reflect the district’s unique branding, including the iconic cougar mascot.
Our experienced sales and production teams at Signarama Troy collaborated on every aspect of the project to ensure the final product met the district’s high standards. This involved selecting the most effective lighting methods, designing separate layers of signage to add depth and dimension. We also ensured the structural integrity required for a suspended installation. This project was a first for Signarama Troy, marking our entry into creating custom, suspended signs—a challenge we embraced to deliver an exceptional result.
Results
The final product was nothing short of spectacular. The 84” x 84” illuminated cougar logo sign has become a true centerpiece in the school’s recently updated wrestling room, showcasing the district’s commitment to excellence and school pride. The sign not only enhances the visual appeal of the space but also serves as a powerful branding tool, resonating with the students, staff, and visitors alike.
The successful project has ignited discussions about campus-wide branding updates, setting the stage for future transformative initiatives.
This project is a testament to Signarama Troy’s ability to turn creative concepts into reality, leveraging our expertise in custom signage to enhance brand identity and create lasting impressions.
