About The Client
Armor Storage is a self-storage facility located in Coldwater, MI. Their units range from a 10x5x9 size up to 12x39x9. In addition to their enclosed units they also offer boat storage onsite. With the development of their facility in 2018/2019, a pylon sign along the main road was an essential need for their business.
Project Overview
The owner of Armor Storage actually came to us as a referral from another client of ours. The client’s vision was pretty clear – produce a nice size, illuminated ground sign, approximately 15’ from grade, and incorporate a diamond-plate element into the sign design. All these elements were more than achievable so we began our initial design phase. Using the client’s general format for the logo it was pretty evident this sign would be more vertical than horizontal in nature (which is not common in the sign world and makes it all the more unique).
Our concept was to create a sub-base sign cabinet structure that was skinned with .125” diamond plate aluminum all around. In hindsight, the diamond-plate look portrays security and storage, similar to that of a tool crib inside of a truck bed. This sub-structure was about 4’ wide and 14’ from grade. From there we added two internally lit sign cabinets to both sides. One would advertise their logo, phone, number, and website, and the smaller unit was to display a custom message – for example, a sale that was running. It was surely going to be one good looking sign.
This project is a great example of coming up with a creative and unique sign concept with just a few initial details. As the sign developed throughout the fabrication phases, it was truly great to see it all come together! Additionally, with the location being in Coldwater, MI we were still able to oversee and handle all elements of the project inhouse from design, permit, fabrication, install, and final inspections from our office a few hours away in Troy.
The Result
